The LORD Jesus Christ's Revelation on 04 May 25 through Mother Mary His Might, Our Lady of Guadalupe

Mater Populi Fidelis | DICASTERY FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITH

Doctrinal Note on Some Marian Titles Regarding Mary’s Cooperation in the Work of Salvation

[2]

[Mater Populi Fidelis] The Mother of the Faithful People of God (Titles such as “Mother of Believers,” "Spiritual Mother [of all members of the Mystical Body of Christ],” “Mother of the Faithful” are noticed with approval.[1])

It would not be appropriate to use the title “Co-redemptrix” to define Mary’s cooperation. (The title of “Co-redemptrix” is deemed inappropriate and problematic.[Ibid.])

The title of “Mediatrix” is considered unacceptable when it takes on a meaning that excludes Jesus Christ; however, it can used appropriately so long as it expresses an inclusive and participatory mediation that glorifies the power of Christ. The titles “Mother of Grace” and “Mediatrix of All Graces” are considered acceptable when used in a very precise sense, but the document also warns of particularly broad explanations of the meaning of the terms.[Ibid.]

Comment on Marian Academy’s Declaration,” L’Osservatore Romano (English Weekly Edition), 25 June 1997, 10: “The Constitution Lumen gentium, which by deliberate choice does not contain a dogmatic definition of mediation, was approved by 2,151 votes out of 2,156… Scarcely 33 years after the promulgation of Lumen gentium… the ecclesial, theological and exegetical landscape… has not substantially changed.” This affirmation of the Pontifical International Marian Academy was added to the Declaration of the Theological Commission created within the framework of the 12th International Mariological Congress (Czestochowa, 12-24 August 1996), which considered it unfitting to proceed with a dogmatic definition of Mary as “Mediatrix,” “Co-redemptrix,” and “Advocate.” Cf. Theological Commission of the Congress of Czestochowa, “Request for the Definition of the Dogma of Mary as Mediatrix, Coredemptrix and Advocate[3]”: L’Osservatore Romano (English Weekly Edition), 25 June 1997, 10.

Endnotes

The document of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, approved by Pope Leo XIV, offers clarifications on titles applied to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and calls for special attention to the use of the expression, “Mediatrix of all graces.”

This is the source of the titles in the second column to the right.

Your Holiness, Benedict XVI, In an effort to enhance the ecumenical mission of the Church, and to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all its fullness, we, the undersigned cardinals and bishops who have convened in the favored Marian Shrine of Fatima (May 3-7, 2005), wish to express to you, Most Holy Father, our united hope and desire for the solemn papal definition of the doctrine of the Church regarding Mary Most Holy as the Spiritual Mother of all humanity, the Co-redemptrix with Jesus the Redeemer, Mediatrix of all graces with Jesus the one Mediator, and Advocate with Jesus Christ on behalf of the human race.

[3] "Advocate of Grace"?

MPF, 54. In the perfect immediacy between a human being and God in the communication of grace, not even Mary can intervene. Neither friendship with Jesus Christ nor the Trinitarian indwelling can be conceived of as something that comes to us through Mary or the saints. In any case, what we can say is that Mary desires this good for us and she asks for it, together with us. The liturgy, which is also lex credendi, allows us to reaffirm this cooperation of Mary, not in the communication of grace but in her maternal intercession. In fact, when explaining in what sense the privilege granted to Mary was ordered toward the good of the People of God, the liturgy of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception states that she became an “advocate of grace”[140] — that is, she intercedes by asking God that we might receive the gift of grace.

Fri, 11/7/2025: This is a novelty from 2011 by United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). There is nothing from Divine Revelation to support it, and neither do the The Church Fathers speak of it. It is not present in the entire history of The Church.
