“Quomodo fiet istud, quoniam virum non cognosco?” [Luke 1:34 Nova Vulgata]

And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done, because I know not a man? "

Inspired as a young girl and whilst still in her father's house, Mary made a vow - neder[i] - of perpetual virginity.

4 If a woman has vowed something to the Lord, or binds herself by an oath, which is in her father's house, and is still a girl of age,
5 if her father finds out the vow which she has promised, or the oath with which she has bound her soul and keeps silent, she will be guilty of the vow; whatever he has promised or has sworn, he will accomplish.
6 But if on the day that the father disapproves of it, both his vows and his oaths shall be void; and the Lord will be merciful to him, because his father spoke against him.

et non cognoscebat eam, donec peperit filium, et vocavit nomen eius Iesum. [Matt 1:25 Nova Vulgata]

and did not know her until she gave birth to a son and called his name Jesus.

7 If, being bound by vows or by a pledge voiced without due reflection, she
8 then marries, and if her husband hears of it but says nothing on the day he
learns of it, her vows shall be binding and the pledges she has taken shall be
9 binding. But if on the day he learns of it he expresses his disapproval to her,
this will annul the vow that she has made or the pledge that binds her, voiced
without due reflection. Yahweh will not hold her to it.
