Suggested Yearly Novena Prayers Preceding The Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Arch-Angels on September 29

(Day 1 of Novena on the 20th and day 9 of the Novena on the 28th, the vigil of the Feast)

Dear Arch-Angel St Michael

Thank you for accepting from the LORD to go before us, to keep us in our journey, and to bring me into the place the LORD has prepared.

Going forward, by the LORD, may we take notice of you and hear your voice and not think of you as one to be contemned, the name of the LORD is in you.[1]

Dear Arch-Angel St Gabriel

May I be a true son of Mary and stop being thoughtless and foolish, but keep all the words heaven speaks to me, and with her Motherly help, ponder them in my heart.

Dear Arch-Angel St Raphael

May I love my chaste spouse so deeply, with my heart truly set on him/her.

Please obtain for me then all the healing that I require in my heart, mind, and soul; in my life; that I may with spotless mind, pure heart, clean lips, ready ear, and a chaste body, ever serve Jesus and Mary most chastely all the days of my life. Amen.

Please obtain the same for my loved ones and all who I ought to pray for.

(Pray one Our Father and three Hail Marys in honor of the 9 angelic choirs.)

Say one Our Father in honor of each of the following leading Angels: St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, and our Guardian Angel.

(Four Our Fathers)

O glorious prince St. Michael, chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls, vanquisher of rebel spirits, servant in the house of the Divine King and our admirable conductor, you who shine with excellence and superhuman virtue, deliver us from all evil, who turn to thee with confidence and enable us by thy gracious protection to serve God more and more faithfully every day.

Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may be made worthy of His promises.

Almighty and Everlasting God, Who, by a prodigy of goodness and a merciful desire for the salvation of all men, has appointed the most glorious Archangel St. Michael Prince of Thy Church, make us worthy, we beseech Thee, to be delivered from all our enemies, that none of them may harass us at the hour of death, but that we may be conducted by him into Thy Presence. This we ask through the merits of Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.[2]

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.[3]

Endnotes

20- Behold I will send my angel, who shall go before thee, and keep thee in thy journey, and bring thee into the place that I have prepared

Ecce ego mittam angelum meum, qui praecedat te, et custodiat in via, et introducat in locum quem paravi.

21 Take notice of him, and hear his voice, and do not think him one to be contemned: for he will not forgive when thou hast sinned, and my name is in him.

Observa eum, et audi vocem ejus, nec contemnendum putes : quia non dimittet cum peccaveris, et est nomen meum in illo.

[2] The history of this Chaplet goes back to a devout Servant of God, Antonia d’Astonac, who had a vision of St. Michael. He told Antonia to honor him by nine salutations to the nine Choirs of Angels. St. Michael promised that whoever would practice this devotion in his honor would have, when approaching Holy Communion, an escort of nine angels chosen from each of the nine Choirs. In addition, for those who would recite the Chaplet daily, he promised his continual assistance and that of all the holy angels during life.
